PEDIATRIC & SQUINT
Comprehensive Eye Care & Surgeries
In India, 41% of children are estimated to need visual correction. At present this service involves diagnosis and management of various facets of pediatric eye disorders like refractive error, childhood cataract, amblyopia, and squint but also adult patients with squint/ double vision problems.
- Also called as Lazy Eye,Amblyopia means that the vision in one of the two eyes isn’t adequately developed.
- It also means that the vision in one of the eyes is weaker than the other in terms of quality and quantity of vision.
- There are many reasons why a lazy eye develops.
- The lazy eye is otherwise normally developed physically.
- A lazy eye is usually diagnosed by a eye doctor at a regular eye exam at the doctors office.
- A lazy eye can be managed and the vision developed if adequate treatment is given at the right time.
- A lazy eye can regain full vision if managed well
- A first eye Check with an eye doctor needs to be scheduled by age 3-4 years if no obvious anomaly is noticed or earlier if the parent thinks the eye doesn’t look normal.
We also run a SMART STUDENT EYE -health PROGRAM (SSEP)
During a child’s first 12 years, 80% of all learning is visual . And yet most children have not had a comprehensive eye exam prior to starting school. Majority of students identified as problem learners have undetected vision problems.A comprehensive school Eye health program has 3 major components that include an eye examination,Teacher orientation and health education.
We at Roshni wish to reach out to as many children as we can through this program.
Q: How important is a visit to an ophthalmologist during childhood?
A: AN annual visit to the ophthalmologist is as important as your visit to the pediatrician. Vision develops over the first few months & 80% of learning during the first 12 years is VISUAL. Uncorrected vision problems cause learning and reading difficulties at school and may contribute to conditions like dyslexia and ADD. An undiagnosed LAZY EYE may be cause for permanent reduced vision.
Q: What can we do to prevent damage caused by Digital overuse?
A:It’s a digital world and we cant deny our children the devices from where they learn,be it the computers, tablets,TV or cellphones.Monitored use with parental controls, use of proper light, posture, distance from the eye and adequate breaks certainly helps reduce eye strain.
Q: How can we protect children from injuries?
A: Children are active and hence more prone for injuries.Use of protective glasses, selection of smooth edged toys, safe storage of perfumes &sprays helps.See a doctor immediately if your child injures the eye to prevent long term complications
Q: What is a red eye and what can we do to prevent it?
A: There are many causes for red eye.Infections (more often conjunctivitis/sore eye/pinkeye/red eye) and allergies are the common causes.Hygeine is the only means of reducing the frequency.Use sanitizers, avoid rubbing or touching the eyes.Preferably use tissue wipes and dispose when the child contracts eye infection
